Rebooting always starts with a desired goal and a plan for how to potentially reach that goal. This same rule of thumb applies to many aspects of life. For several years now, Esa Paananen’s excellent reloading guides have made life easier for reloaders.

The first supplementary edition of the revised “Reloading Centerfire Cartridges with Brass Cases” book sixth (6) edition (ISBN 978-952-93-4574-8) has been published. It contains useful additions and clarifications compared to previous editions.

The new book offers over 600 pages of solid, up-to-date basic information for both novice and experienced reloaders, not to mention other enthusiasts interested in cartridges. As is traditional, the book’s caliber selection has been expanded. New additions include the 8 x 57 IRS, 338 Federal, 458 Lott, and 7.62 mm Nagant calibers, for which the book provides a comprehensive range of loading data. The loading data for the older 7 x 57 Mauser, 7 x 57R, 7 x 64 Brenneke, 7 x 65R, 280 Remington, and 7 mm Remington Magnum have been re-tested using modern loading components.

The loading data for the 260 Remington and 8 x 57 IS have also been updated. The loading charts for 300 H&H Magnum, 9.3 x 57, 9.3 x 62, 416 Remington Magnum, 45-70 Government, 450 Marlin, and 458 Winchester Magnum have been supplemented with loading data for numerous new bullets.

In addition, the book includes previously unpublished loading data for Barnes, GS Custom, Hornady, Norma, Prvi Partisan, Sako, Sierra, Speer, Swift, and Woodleigh bullets for nearly all 222–458 caliber cartridges commonly used in Finland. The maximum loads in the 9.3 x 74R loading charts have been adjusted to comply with CIP 08-09-23.

The maximum loads in other loading charts are now also in accordance with this latest available CIP, as are the cartridge dimension drawings presented in the book. Caliber-specific Hornady, Lee, RCBS, and Redding case holder numbers have been added to the loading charts. The chapter “The Effect of Loading Components on Cartridge Performance” has been updated to reflect current knowledge.

In total, the book contains over 5,000 individual loading data entries, of which approximately 800 are previously unpublished. The book’s update project took over two years, during which 55 shooting sessions were held. Over 5,000 live rounds were fired during the project.
